FAQs
What is the average number of online consultations?
Excluding the Initial Consultation, we find people need between 2 - 4 consultations on average, much the same as in the Clinic.
Generally, the more complex your medical background, and the more problems you want help with at the same time, the more consultations are needed. Some problems, although apparently different, are linked, so you may find that treatment helps other concerns, incidentally. We try to treat as many problems at a time as we can; it is certainly not one consultation, one problem. Dr Monk will want to get one treatment successfully under way though, before he starts adding prescriptions for additional problems.

How long do i have to do my treatment for?
Most people will be asked to carry out their prescription on a daily basis, usually for 30 minutes.
how and where can i ADMINISTER my treatment when at home?
You don’t need to do the treatment lying down or resting, although some people choose to do them like that. Most treatments can be carried out sitting down so you can get on with all the activities you normally do whilst sitting down.
is it safe for me to do this treatment ?
The treatment can safely be done by you because the treatment unit itself is very safe and designed for home use whilst still having the necessary versatility and accuracy we require. Dr Monk’s knowledge and experience in developing your personal prescription, allows you to use it in a sophisticated way which is tailored to you and, importantly, takes account of your medical background, any other problems you may have and your medications.
what do you mean by bioelectronic medicine?
Tiny electrical pulses applied to the surface of the skin produce responses in the body; some take place at the point being stimulated and some take place in the brain. Responses have profound healing effects such as improving blood flow, reducing inflammation and reducing pain. Using our knowledge and experience we can alter the responses by choosing different areas to stimulate or by using different types of stimulation. We are used to the idea of electrical signalling in the body - we have all heard of ECGs and EEGs - and we can use the Digital Treatment Unit to tap into the body’s electrical activity to help us get better.
is there an express route to treatment?
Yes, there is an Express track to treatment if you prefer.
You can book a double consultation at the outset meaning an Initial Consultation immediately followed by the first prescription based Consultation. This means that you can start to treat yourself the same day as the Initial Consultation.
The way Express works is you book and pay for both the online Initial Consultation, the first online prescription based Consultation and for the Digital Treatment Unit, at the outset. The Digital Treatment Unit is sent so that you have it in time for the double consultation.
If, after the Initial Consultation, Dr Monk doesn’t feel you will benefit from treatment or you don’t want to go on to treatment, you can return the unit for a refund. You also receive a refund for the unused portion of the double consultation.
Return of the unit is at your expense. We refund for the unit and consultation not taken, when the complete and unopened package gets back to us. We do not refund the P&P to send the unit to you.
Fee:
Initial setup £249, this includes both the initial consultation and first prescription based consultation, and the digital treatment unit and electrode set.
P&P, £10

how does standard and express treatment compare?
With the Standard track the first prescription based consultation is usually a week after the initial Consultation.
With the Standard track you pay for the Initial Consultation first, and then for the Digital Treatment Unit and first prescription based consultation in the next invoice.

do i have to have an initial consultation when returning with a new problem?
WHAT IS THE DIGITAL TREATMENT UNIT?
The treatment unit we supply is very safe and designed for home use whilst still having the necessary versatility and accuracy we require. Dr Monk’s knowledge and experience in developing your personal prescription, allows you to use the unit in a sophisticated way which is tailored to you. The unit along with the custom set of electrodes which we supply with it can be used for several different types of treatment within bioelectronic medicine. This gives him a variety of ways to help you.
It is a one time purchase which can be used for a range of problems, not just the present condition. You could also share it with other family members too with separate prescriptions.
We sell separate replacement electrode packs for lost electrodes, or when the sticky electrodes wear out over time.

what happens in the consultations?
First, you have an online Consultation with Dr Monk.
This is to gather full details of your problem and to review your medical background; any other problems, medications, surgery and so on. Dr Monk explains the treatment in more detail, the benefit you can expect and he will show you the digital treatment unit that you will use to administer your personalised prescriptions.
He will also give you an indication of how many consultations he thinks you will need to achieve a good and lasting improvement. This is usually between 2-4, in addition to the initial consultation.
If you and Dr Monk are happy to proceed with treatment after the initial consultation we will send you a Digital Treatment Unit ready for your first online prescription based consultation.
At that first prescription based consultation, Dr Monk will show you how to set up the Unit to treat yourself following his treatment prescription. He ensures the Unit is set up correctly and that you are clear about your treatment and frequency of self administration.
At subsequent consultations Dr Monk reviews your progress, he may change or add to your prescription, and at the appropriate time he will give you a taper schedule to wind down the treatment so that benefit is maintained.
At all consultations Dr Monk is there to guide and advise you.

why are some underlying conditions or circumstances excluded?
The conditions we exclude from treatment are general exclusions for bioelectronic medicine, out of an abundance of caution. In a fully supervised setting such as a Clinic these approaches may be safely used with a clinician’s judgement, but in the home environment we always err on the safe side.
General exclusions:
If you have a Cardiac Pacemaker.
If you have had a Heart attack.
If you have Heart Rhythm problems.
If you have Epilepsy.
If you have Haemophilia or other bleeding disorders.
If you are Pregnant or think you might be.
We do not treat Clinical Depression.

what are your post and packaging and replacement electrode charges?

are there any side effects?
The treatment is very safe and side -effects are minimal. You will feel a slight tingling or buzzing sensation and some people can find this a bit uncomfortable, but it isn’t painful or unbearable. It is possible to get a reaction to the skin pads - a rash or redness, although we have not seen this in any patients so far. Some patients find that, as with any treatment, there can be a stirring up of their symptoms when they first start treatment, but this is usually minor, settles quickly and does not indicate that the treatment is the ‘wrong’ one or will not be successful.
why do you not treat clinical depression?
Although these conditions are often lumped together they are different. Clinical depression can escalate into a mental health crisis very rapidly. In this situation a person needs access to specialist 24/7 acute mental health support, and we do not have that expertise or support facility.
can i visit the clinic?
We have closed the physical clinic and have no plans to re-open it.
